Some preparations to the window opening can make the job much easier and leave the window prepared for interior and exterior finishing.

Use of a wood buck inside of the concrete opening allows for easier installation of exterior and interior trim and also ensures a square opening for the window installation. In a concrete wall without wood framing install the window framework by fastening it into the concrete wall with self tapping concrete screws. Windows are installed in cinder blocks in much the same way as they are installed in wood framed walls but they need to be held in place with concrete. Then make a custom frame and push the window in place.

Now that the window is out of the wall check the window jamb and the window stop for structural damage. Fill that space with low expansion polyurethane spray foam. Install window in the flashed opening and leave adequate space all around the window for insulation. Replace any damaged areas before installing windows.
