Align the two long screws from the inside knob into the cylinders on the exterior door knob and tighten the screws.
How to install a new front door handle.
Next you ll install the outside handle assembly.
If so just seal the corner of the cap and don t install the pads.
Install the inside handle.
Avoid damage to the screws by using a hand screwdriver.
My front door knob was broken and i couldn t open the door from the inside or outside.
To steady the base of the handle insert a mounting screw and hide its head with the decorative cover supplied.
The handle will stay in place leaving your hands free to secure the interior trim.
Then install the handle set according to the instructions aligning the spindle with the latch.
Install both knobs by sliding the spindle through the slot in the latch.
Add the interior lever rotating the chassis tabs so it slips through the latch and easily joins the handle.
Line up the spindle on the back of the handle with the slot in the latch sliding any mechanisms up or down as needed to fit the handle onto the door.
Remove the two screws holding the strike plate in place on the door jamb and install the new one in the same position.
Fasten both with mounting screws.
If your new door knob is too small for the screw holes left by the old door knob purchase a hardening type wood putty or filler.
Next fit the knob on the spindle and tighten its setscrew.
The door opening might be too tight for the pads.
I had to fix it.
Here s how i did it.
Install a new door lock and door knob by inserting the latch through the hole for the new parts.
Fill any screw holes with the wood putty and give it 30 minutes to a few hours to dry depending on the putty instructions.
Fit the lock over the projecting cylinder post and put the knob s spindle and rosette assembly on the thumb latch post.
Mount the latch and deadbolt into the mortises with two screws each.
Slide the adjustable throughbolt up or down as needed and press the handleset onto the door.
If your new door handle attaches to the door at a point below the lower borehole like ours you may need to drill another hole to accommodate.
Once the door is drilled installation is a simple job.
Insert the lockset tailpieces through the latch bolt and screw the handles together by tightening the retaining screws.
Align the spindle on the back of the assembly with the throughbolt and the slot in the latch.
