Lay the piece of aluminum foil flat and cover the dent. Lay the foil flush against the dent so it is completely covered. Pick up your lighter and move the lit flame back and forth over the dent for 60 seconds. Stand next to the dent in your garage door.

Taking the lighter move it over the area of the dent making sure you cover the entire area with the flame with a consistent motion for one minute. Smooth out the material with the putty knife and fill any remaining voids in the door. Make sure you use a consistent motion so that the flame hits the aluminum foil wherever the stubborn dent is. The other way to remove a small dent from your garage door is a little less scientific. Use one hand to hold the foil in place to keep it in place.

The compressed air method is much faster and allows you to fix most garage door dents in under ten minutes. Set the aluminum foil the lighter and the compressed air canister with the top removed at your feet. Wash the area with warm water and detergent and allow it to dry fully. Use warm water and detergent to wash the dented area of your garage door clean and then allow it to dry completely.

Use the patching material to cover the dented area and make it even using the putty knife. You can use a rubber mallet or a hammer with a block of wood to transfer the force. Next take a piece of aluminum foil that is sized to fit over the dented area and place it over the dent. There is a less scientific way.

Just tap away at the dent from the inside of the door. You re going to begin with the same steps as the first method by washing the door with mild detergent allowing it to dry completely. Sand the area to even it out.
