Be sure to measure how high your ceilings are before considering bunk or loft beds.

It is essential to have 33 to 36 inches of space between the top of the mattress and your ceiling which means your ceiling should be about 100 inches high four inches more than a traditional 8 foot ceiling.
This is a good idea for the home office if you want to use it as a guest room occasionally.
Unfortunately it can get stuffy and hot in a loft bed because warm air rises.
In a room with 8 foot high ceilings and a loft bed that uses an 8 inch thick mattress this 30 inch head space means there will be about 56 inches of space between the bottom of the loft platform and the floor.
After you determine that you want a loft bed figure out if your home can handle a loft bed.
Another idea to consider is installing a ceiling fan.

Luckily proper ventilation will keep you comfortable.
They create lots of space by lifting the bed off the floor allowing you to either leave the space open or utilize it as you see fit.
